VIVA LA VIDA 06.18.08

CATEGORIZED UNDER: PERSONAL

I love many bands, too many to list, one of them that is way up there…. Coldplay, I loved those guys and the music from their first record “Parachutes” which was not a commercial success here in USA. We always need longer to catch up with those great British bands.

Anyway, I got this new record “Viva la Vida” yesterday and I have been listening to it 18 times since, I know that for a fact as iTunes keeps count. What an amazing record. This is the white album for Coldplay. Better than “X&Y”, better than “A rush of blood to the head” and that one was quite amazing. You may have heard the title track in one of Apple’s commercials if not check it out here. (Sure this has nothing to do with Chris Martin, and his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, name their baby daughter “Apple,” but as further signification of Coldplay’s fanatical obsession with all things Apple-related).

I highly recommend this to everyone. #1 record on iTunes. Go get it!

PEARL JAM 06.12.08

CATEGORIZED UNDER: PERSONAL

Last night I went to see one of my all time favorite bands with Candace. For me it was the 3rd time seeing Pearl Jam, but I have to tell you this show was great (how can it not be) but it was not like the first show I saw in 1997. PJ is definitely not at their peak anymore, however they do have enough amazing hit tunes to fill a 2 hour show. Last night they left out some of my favorites like “Jeremy” and “Black” how can you leave that one out? “Black” is the best PJ song in my opinion. They did only few old songs (which I really like the best) and some newer less popular songs. They only did one encore and ended the show with a solo guitar “Star-Spangled Banner” Jimmy Hendrix style.

Maybe it’s me just getting older but I got to tell you, I love music and concerts but man do I hate masses of people. I think we inhaled so much pot smoke just by standing around pot heads that I started to visualize that Eddie Vedder looked like the Larry the Cable guy. About 3 songs into the show Eddie puts on a hunters hat and jokes about the fact that it makes him look like Larry the Cable guy. Anyway, the chick next to me was having her own concert singing every song right into my ear, the 2 guys next to us had this ear splitting clap and let’s not forget those that were sweating like Shaquille O’Neal at the free throw line and every once in a while you get some of that. Let’s not forget the guy that broadcast the concert to his girlfriend over the cell phone. Good times.

All together we enjoyed the show, it’s nice to hear all the older songs and see everyone sing along if it was not for the frickin parking lot which took us 1 hour to get out of. Anyway here are a few pictures I took from the show. Enjoy.

Here is a shot I took in 97 when I had all VIP access. I will have many cool concert shots on my new “commercial” website when I launch it.
