If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you probably have been reading about my rants with the stock market. It’s hard to ignore the situation in the world wide economy (not just US) right now. The stock market has hit an historic low this past week, dropping about 40% from it’s high a year ago and 20% alone this past week. Major banks and investment firms went down and I expect more to go down. I am not going to go deep into what went wrong… we all know what went wrong. However I think we will bounce back in a few years so I am looking at this as a “SALE” on wall street where I can buy stocks and add shares to my retirement account at a discounted price. I never sold a single share (I actually bought this past week) only when you sell you lose. I am expecting a huge 2000+ point rally after Nov 4th (when Obama wins). We will see, perhaps I should stick to photography.

I have always been very interested in the economy and investing in general. If my photography business did not happen, I would have wanted to be a stock trader on Wall Street. Those guys are incredible and insane at the same time. So this week I want to show my respect to those guys by posting a collage of “traders in distress” images I grabbed from various financial websites this past week. There is hope and I have a feeling that we have reached the bottom. If you like you can comment on this situation below.

We decided to cut the Trip to Amsterdam and drive back home in favor of spending more time with my family before we head back home on Sunday. I have completely underestimated this trade show. It was one of the largest trade shows I have ever been to (not just photography). They had about 14 halls as large as a football stadium. Canon owned the show with one hall just for themselves. I must have spent an entire day checking out Canon products. I love Canon, wink wink

I also checked out Nikon and Leica. I am really impressed with the products and the overall quality of all Leica products. The star of the show was the 5D Mark II. Everyone wanted to check out that camera. I actually had the chance to play with it twice. My first impression was very good. It looks like they have used the same weather proof material that only the Mark II & III have. There is also a complete new UI that seemed less cluttered and clean. The focus with “L” series lenses seemed very responsive and fast. The quality of the HD video looked insane on the monitor they had set up. I was not able to test that but it looks like you are able to shoot and then do video clips at the same time which can be very useful for small clips during ceremonies. The ISO looked amazing at 6400 and very acceptable at 12800. I am going to get one when they become available in November. Canon also has a new L series 24 mm 1.4 lens that looked tight.

I also talked to people at Nikon about a “try out” equipment program. I really want to test the D3 and some of the lenses. As soon as I have worked with that camera I will be able to make a much better comparison.

Here are some images I took during the Photokina. I am full of new knowlage and inspiration every time I go to a trade show. I cant wait to return back home and start my wedding season.Happy Friday.

This is my favorite shot I took. 2 elderly people sitting in front of some sexy prints. Good timing.

Check out the paparazzi

Here she is (all my cameras are she’s) the new 5D Mark II

That is the new 24 mm 1.4 on the 5D Mark II. A beauty of a lens.

Paris Hilton look alike

I loved the booth display of the “Holga”

Canon dropped the hammer with the largest booth.

Check out the boots on that guy. Sweet Jesus.

The Mark Ds III with the 300 mm 2.0. $15k in my hand
Besides no one checks blogs on the weekend so I will post Dania & Ludovic’s wedding on Tuesday when everyone is back at work.

I will leave you with this interesting post about this website I found called Yearbook yourself. You upload an image and you can see what you would look like in the High School yearbook all the way back to 1950.

Check out my image from 1978, serial killer and it looks like I gained some weight in 1998. But that is not all, you think my images look funny than check out Candace in 1962. Grrrrr…..hot!

Have a relaxing Labor day!

Lately, I’ve been receiving many calls from brides asking if I do “boudoir” photography. The answer is YES! However I will be honest here. I’m not a fan of what is out there when it comes to boudoir photography, as everything looks the same. I don’t even like the name “boudoir” that much, it kind of reminds me of this.

I think there is a lot of tacky, boring let’s say cheesy boudoir out there. Of course if you like it, then ignore my rambling. I personally like to shoot more dramatic, darker, Maxim magazine style with a lot of attitude and uber sexy. After all, that is what it is all about. A few weeks ago I did a testing to see how the natural light is in my new studio and to experiment with some new equipment. I could have used my 2 doggies for that, but I want to thank Mia for being such an awesome volunteer. Anyway, if you want to take your boudoir experience to the next level then please let me know. I will be posting real soon a “Boudoirathon” which will take place all day long at a fancy hotel in South Beach or near by. We will do blocks of 2 hours, make up, hair the whole thing. We will doll you up alright. I’ve seen too many shooters do this so why not me? Look for details coming real soon!

It’s never too late to give your dear husband something for your anniversary or valentines day or just something to remember you by when he is at work ;) wink wink

I love this one, give me a little of that dramatic light and make love to the camera ;)

Twitter…what is it? It’s not anything that vibrates or requires batteries but more of a new (well new to me) social networking thingie. I don’t even know what it is but I want to give it a try after initial instant rejection. It is something that will fill in between my blog posts and in more personal and casual language. I will challenge myself to say things that are interesting (or not so much), informative, witty, funny or maybe controversial and all that in 140 characters or less. Looks like I will need some padding.

I found out that short witty and funny tweets are more interesting at least to me than “TGIF” or “I just walked up and I am eating a muffin”. So follow me for my daily dose of flavoured tweets as I go through my day at www.twitter.com/maloman. I will also figure a way to integrate the twitter feeds on my blog for those who think “What the hell is he talking about?” Yes, I am talking to you, mom.

Watch this video by Common Craft. I think they do the best job explaining what twiiter is.

While in NY I wanted to try some amazing pizza and I heard about Grimaldi’s under the Brooklyn bridge so Ryan and I went there. Grimaldi’s claims to be the birth place of pizza in this country dating back to 1905. No matter what time of the day you go there, one thing you can count on is…big lines. After we waited about 1 hr we finally got seated. The restaurant is very small and the tables are placed strategically so they can fit as many people as possible. Pictures of celeb’s on the walls especially Sinatra who was a regular there, red and white checkered table cloth (typical Italian restaurant) real plates, utensils and glasses. No plastic ware here (I hate plastic ware or food in baskets, what are we animals?).

Grimaldi’s makes their own mozzarella which is amazing. We had a tomato, basil and mozzarella pie and let me tell you, I’ve had my slices of pizzas but none were like this. The crust was very thin and crusty but not too crusty if you know what I mean. The wait was well worth it. The service was not very friendly (maybe it’s a NY thing) and I heard true stories that if you complain they will throw you out…mob style (get the f#@k outa here) so don’t complain. There is someone outside waiting that will love to take your table. Seinfeld once said “soup nazi” was based on Grimaldi’s service.

Anyway, you should check the place out if you like pizza, if you like Chinese food than you need to try Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown (best Chinese food in NYC according to Zagat). One more thing, Grimaldi is cash only if you don’t have the cash…forgetabouit!

Winter or summer, day or night…you will always be waiting at Grimaldi’s
Even I had to wait.

Ryan is holding the line

That is one sexy looking pie. They actually put the red sauce on top last.

You have to try this if you go there. Black cherry soda. Good stuff.

Chinatown…again waiting in line at Joe’s Shanghai. You know you have a good product when people are willing to wait outside.

This place is famous for their soup dumplings. Don’t say you don’t want them like I did. The place got quiet when I said “no thanks”. Ryan got some.

Yum. You will sit at a table with other people (strangers). Again don’t complain, they also throw complainers out.

Mongolian beef, was really good

$30 dinner in NYC…..not bad.

When we got back to the hotel, we had a surprise in the room. I think they thought I was famous….cute.

For my 300 post I have a real special announcement. A few weeks ago I posted a teaser about something that I was working on. Today I am ready to make the big announcement about my brand new studio/workspace located in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale on the New River and across from the IMAX Theater. For the past year I have been looking for the ideal dream studio and this one is exactly what I was looking for. Killer urban location, just a few blocks from Las Olas, huge windows facing south (there is no better light for shooting with natural light than southern light) 14 foot ceiling in a brand new loft brick building. The studio is about 700 sq feet, which is not a lot but how much more do I really need?

If you check my blog on a regular basis you have probably noticed some images that looked different, more controlled in a studio environment. I have many projects lined up that I will be doing in the studio so stay tuned to find out. I want to get back to basics.

The main reason for the studio was that I wanted to get out of the house. Working from home was great for a while but I believe as my business grew, that it was time to take the leap and move into a studio where I can work and shoot, meet with clients or even take my clients out to lunch since everything is in walking distance. It also makes me respect work and personal time. Now when I go home, I don’t work till midnight like I used to many, many times but spend time with Candace and my dogs. Quality time.

I wanted to thank Candace and Ryan for his help when we moved with his truck and his tools (that guy has serious tools). Check out some of the images I took yesterday, and please do stop by if you are in the hood ;)

Studio is split into 3 areas. Work area on the left and meeting area on the right. Shooting area is on the opposite side
Shooting area with 3 different backdrops (exchangeable)
A few twilight shots for those who like it moody.
