Last week Junebug Weddings has announced their “Best of the Best” list. We were stocked to see us included in that list after being on that list last year already. Junebug is an amazing site and we are truly honored to be included again in this list among some of the best shooters in the industry. This shot was taken during the father/daughter dance at the Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables.

1st place award & 9 Accolade of Excellence at WPPI 2011

I always like to compare WPPI (Wedding Portrait Professional International) to the Grammy’s for photographers. For me going to WPPI is essential to my business. Every time we return I feel like I have so much more to learn and improve in my business and skills set. Last week Candace and I went to Las Vegas to meet up with all our photographer friends, get inspired & make new friends.

Last year at WPPI 2010 we did well in the print competition, collecting 2 First place awards and the Grand Award. This year we didn’t do too bad either with 9 Accolade of Excellence (every image I entered received a merit, scored over 80) and a 1st place award for engagement. We are more than happy with the outcome and we will be back for sure next year. Not bad considering over 3500 were entered by amazing photographers world wide. I’m happy.

Below are the images we submitted this year. I want to give a huge shout out to Jonathan Penny, without your printing skills my images would have never looked as sexy. The biggest thank you goes to all my amazing clients who trust me and allow me to create images like these. You guys are fabulous!

PS. We did not win the $800.000 jackpot this year.

2011 is off to a great start. Today I received word from Blair at Junebug Weddings and she informed us that we have been included in Junebug’s annual “Best of the Best or 2010″ list of some of the most face-melting images created in 2010. We are very honored to be a part of this list. Thank you to the girls at Junebug for all the support & features over the past year, we truely love your blog. Congrats to all other amazing shooters on that list. Happy New Year!

Awarded the Grand Award & two 1st Place Awards at WPPI 2010

I remember back when I was a poor foreign student at the Art Institute when I entered and won several print competitions. The winning image would be displayed in the schools hallways for everyone to see. It was so exciting to see my image and my name next to it. Well, last week I was able to do the same, only on a much bigger platform. For wedding & portrait photographers the annual Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) convention is like the Grammy’s.

We were honored with 2 first place international awards of excellence and THE GRAND AWARD which is awarded to the overall best image in a category. So if this was the Olympics of photographers, I got 2 gold medals in luge and 1 in hockey…for Canada ;)

Because this was the fist time I won at WPPI, I want to dedicate these awards to my parents who paid for my school and made it possible for me to come to this country 17 years ago, my wife Candace who I owe everything I have achieved so far and who pushed me to finally submit some work and most of all I want to thank my clients for being so awesome and giving me the creative freedom which led to award winning images. Without you this would not be possible. Entered 5 award images this year & I will be back next year for sure. I have a feeling this year, I will be doing my best work ever!

P.s. I know I have been tooting my own horn about this a lot on twitter/facebook, can you blame me? EVERYONE MUST KNOW!!

This is the Grand Award winner. Never awarded to an “engagement” image.
